texas sheet cake

Chocolate mixed with cinnamon on the inside and with espresso on the outside. Delicious served with vanilla ice cream. Totally worth the multiple steps.

Sift together and set aside:
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda

Bring to boil and mix well into the sifted dry ingredients:
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup oil
1/4 cup cocoa

Beat together. Then pour into the batter you’ve made and beat for a couple of minutes:
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp vinegar
2 eggs

Pour into greased and floured sheet cake tray and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Start making the frosting about 5 minutes before the cake is done.

Frosting:

Bring to boil:
6 Tbsp butter
1/4 cup cocoa
1/8 cup water
1 tsp espresso powder (or instant coffee)
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

Add the following to the hot cocoa mixture, slowly and one ingredient at a time:
3 cups powdered/icing sugar
1 cup chopped nuts

Spread frosting on hot cake.
